Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing removes the outer layer of damaged skin (epidermis) and heats the underlying skin (dermis), stimulating collagen production and new skin cell growth. The result is smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin. 

The procedure can be ablative or non-ablative: 

• Ablative lasers remove the top layer of skin, offering more dramatic results but with a recovery time that is slightly longer than treatments using Non-ablative lasers.  

• Non-ablative lasers target the deeper layers of the skin without removing the outer layer, which means less downtime but often requires multiple treatments for optimal results. 

Dr. Benaim utilizes the Supra Medical Icon CO2 Fractional Laser device for effective treating of deep wrinkles, acne scars, and more significant skin imperfections.  

Fractional CO2 lasers are different from traditional CO2 lasers that were widely used in the late 80s and 90s when this technology first started to be used in practicing medicine. Instead of treating the entire skin surface, fractional CO2 lasers create tiny, controlled wounds (columns) in the skin, leaving the surrounding tissue intact. This allows for faster healing while still providing effective skin rejuvenation.  

Though IPL is not technically a laser, it is commonly used for skin resurfacing and rejuvenation. IPL devices use a broad spectrum of light to target various skin issues, including wrinkles, sun damage, and pigmentation.  

Dr. Benaim combines both CO2 laser treatment and Intense pulsed light to obtain the best result of wrinkle removal and addressing skin imperfections that patients bring to him. Each laser skin resurfacing program is customized to include the best possible combination of treatments that will deliver the most optimal results that patients desire.
