Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment (Lumecca) is a procedure for patients who want to improve their skin complexion, reduce skin irregularities and look years younger. A powerful technology, Lumecca provides a photo-facial that helps address age spots (red/brown pigmentation), sun damage, vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, leg telangiectasias), rosacea (redness), and freckles.

How Does IPL Treatment (Lumecca) Work?

During the IPL treatment, light energy is used to precisely remove pigmented or damaged skin cells or hair follicles. Using the Lumecca device, we target wavelengths of light into the skin. When the light hits the skin cells, it heats them up and breaks them down. Then, the body does its job and removes the damaged tissue on its own. Skin repairs can take place with new collogen deposition.

The most common treatment zones are those regularly exposed to the sun. This typically includes the face, neck, décolletage (chest area), legs, hands, and arms.

What Are the Benefits of IPL Treatment (Lumecca)?

IPL treatment (Lumecca) addresses facial pigmentation, superficial vessels, skin texture, and/or photodamage.
Some of the other issues it can address include:

  • Age spots (red/brown pigmentation)
  • Sun damage
  • Vascular lesions (spider veins, port wine stains, leg telangiectasias)
  • Rosacea (redness)
  • Freckles

This is a great option for patients who want a non-surgical option for anti-aging treatment.

IPL Consultation

Benaim Eye & Aesthetics is staffed full time by Monroe Benaim, M.D.. He performs and oversees the aesthetic treatments offered at our Jupiter office.

When you come in for your first appointment, Dr. Benaim and his team will meet with you to discuss your needs and goals. Based on that, Dr. Benaim can recommend whether IPL treatment (Lumecca), gold microneedling treatment (Morpheus8) or both are right for you.

For example, if you want to reduce the appearance of sunspots and tighten the skin on your hands, he might recommend IPL first, followed by a microneedling treatment (Morpheus8).

For the best results, IPL treatment (Lumecca) is also done in sessions. Dr. Benaim and his staff will go over how many sessions you might need, along with pricing and packaging options.

To ensure you’re a candidate for the procedure, we will collect information based on your medical history at your consultation. Pregnancy is a relative contraindication to having the procedure.

Before Your IPL Treatment (Lumecca)

Once you’ve scheduled your IPL treatment (Lumecca) we will ask you to avoid extended sun exposure to prevent sunburn.
When you arrive, make sure your skin is free from:

  • Makeup
  • Sunscreen
  • All lotions or cleansers

To help remove any remaining foreign substances from your skin, the technician will use a facial cleanser.

During Your IPL Treatment (Lumecca)

A handheld device is used to treat the specific areas discussed during your consultation.

Immediately following treatment, a technician will apply a soothing recovery cream. A post-procedure kit — including the recovery cream, an antioxidant sheet mask, thermal spring water, gentle cleanser, and mineral-based sun protection — will be sent home with you. The cream can be applied again that night and afterward, as needed.

The entire IPL treatment (Lumecca) can take as little as 15 minutes (for one small target area) to up to two hours (for larger areas).

After Your IPL Treatment (Lumecca)

Following your IPL treatment (Lumecca), you might notice minor redness and swelling. It typically subsides within a few days.

If you go out in the sun, make sure to wear sunblock. There’s no wait time to begin wearing moisturizer or makeup though.
You’ll start to see results within 1-2 weeks.
For the best results, we often recommend recurring sessions of IPL (Lumecca) treatment. Dr. Benaim and his team can work with you to determine a schedule.
